Andrew Tate is not an Estonian citizen, his lawyers admit in court
In addition to not meeting any language or civic requirements, his attempt to look tough in a sauna would have immediately disqualified him anyway.
Much of Andrew Tate's wealth and status is fabricated, his lawyers claimed in court this week, including the Estonian passport he has previously said he possessed.
Prosecutors argued he and his brother Tristan are a flight risk if granted bail, while they await potential extradition on sexual offence charges, because they have previously bragged about using their wealth and multiple identities to evade the law.
In response, lawyers for the Tate brothers had to concede they are not as wealthy and connected as they pretend.
Luxury items, such as yachts and supercars, were basically rented props and his seven passports claim was just a joke, they said.
“The Tates are engaged in several businesses teaching men how to earn money," the lawyer added. "It is in their interest to portray themselves on social media as uberwealthy.”
You know you are in trouble when your own lawyers describe you as grifters as part of your defence.
While Tate was falsely claiming to be an Estonian citizen, his brother Tristan also facing facing multiple sexual offence charges has been oddly angered by.. er, Baltic desynchronisation from the Russian power grid.
He tweeted last year that this would increase electricity prices, despite the fact that desynchronisation is a technical decoupling issue for security and more efficient grid management. The Baltics haven't imported electricity from Russia since 2022.
He angrily added that: "Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are just Russian villages who had their own dialect (but pretty much all spoke russian) and are now pretending to be totally unique countries".
Who hurt you, Tristian? 🥲
As for Andrew's Estonian passport, this was always a dubious claim.
To naturalise as an Estonian citizen, you must live in the country for at least eight years, pass a language and civics exams, swear loyalty to the constitutional order, and renounce prior citizenship. They don’t give it out to random losers.
Plus, this photo he once posted in a sauna would have immediately disqualified him anyway.

Where to begin? Tate is sitting BELOW the stones, alone, in UNDERWEAR, and far out of reach from the bucket, all while posing as a tough guy in a mild sauna. Even young children in Estonia know better than this. Leil (sauna steam), and the company of friends and family are the most essential elements of a good sauna.
GTFO of our holy place.
Andrew Tate did apply for e-Residency of Estonia, a status that makes it easier to manage a business online using Estonia’s e-services and it is made very clear that this is not citizenship and the digital ID provided is not a travel document of any kind.
And even his e-Residency was later revoked by the Estonian Police "because supervisory proceedings found that his activities did not correspond to the purpose of e‑residency".
Nevertheless, he then told a podcast that he had an Estonian passport during a detailed explanation about the need to maintain legal statuses across multiple countries. It’s unclear how any of his audience could have known that was a joke.
Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan are currently in jail in Florida while facing extradition proceedings to the UK on multiple sexual offence charges.
